5 Things To Think About When Choosing A Security Camera.
Selecting a security camera can be an arduous operation, as you're really at the mercy of the company or salesman marketing or promoting the product.
Naturally they're going to advocate to you the product that they provide - and will give you all of the reasons why you shouldn't purchase from their competitors.
But is that adequate?
Unless your best friend sells surveillance cameras, and you trust their ideas, ponder these 5 points:
1) What is the fundamental use of the camera?
If your principal use is to patrol a fixed or stationary target or area, consider a "wired" camera as they can render out excellent video quality at a greatly reduced cost over wireless cameras.
The immediate benefit of a non wired camera becomes evident if you need to relocate premises or locations as you can easily take them with you.
2) Is Size Important?
Of course if you're wanting to perform some covert surveillance you will be needing a minuscule "spy" type camera. Spy cameras are made in both wired and wire-less models.
They can be very small in size, but generally lose picture quality.
3) How big an area does the camera need to provide surveillance for?
The larger the field you have to monitor, you have only really got 2 options - The 1st is to get a camera that has moving and zoom in capabilities, and the second is to install multiple cameras in many areas.
4) Is power readily accessible?
Construction sites, jetties, and rural properties are often easy choices for thieves as it can be difficult to obtain the required power supply needed to power most Cctv camera installations.
No power supply more often than not means no video cameras.
True wireless security camera systems are now available - allowing you to bypass the lack of power supply difficulty that you may have in the position you want your camera installed.
5) Do the cameras come with warranties?
Cameras that are parallel imported are generally unable to provide a decent warranty as they simply cannot. On occassion - it's not ALL about price - when you need your cctv camera solution the most, you sure don't want it breaking down!
Imagine if your Cctv set up failed right when you needed it most - when your property is being broken into?
Take your time to mull over the above questions to really nominate the appropriate system for you.
Security Cameras at night?
Are most security camera, that we see at the mall or on court houses, etc... equipped with night vision, or do they usually get poor picture quality at night, without ample lighting. I am making inquiries from law enforcement because I am trying to catch a car burglar at a friends bar. We have looked at a few fixed angled cameras like the one you see on the side of buildings. How good is the picture quality in a dark parking lot. They have no infrared or night vision that I know of. Will a camera like this produce a good night time image, and from what distance? How effective are night vision from distances? Im talking 20ft or more, without someone monitoring the camera to zoom. I figure that law enforcement officers have view more surveillance footage then the average citizen so I would like to hear from you all on your experience on nighttime CCTV footage. Thank you all in advanced
Yes, is the answer to your first question, they have to be in order to be able to pick up the image on the camera. However even with a good infrared camera having good lighting is a must.
If an infrared camera is placed in a parking lot where there isn't any lighting it will be difficult to see the picture. It there is low lighting the picture will be some what grainy and you may see some of what is out there. You will see the pixels on the monitor and the picture will be some what grainy, as well as there being shadows. The distance that you may be able to see in low lighting when using a camera may be cut in half. But you will still be able to see some of what is going on.
In order for the picture to be clear there needs to be good lighting in the area where the camera is to be placed, that will give the best picture quality of all.
With a good inferred camera/zoom feature and even being able to pan the entire area that is being monitored at 20 feet you would still be able to get a clear picture with proper lighting.
I hope that this helps answer your question. God bless.
