Improving Pro Tools workflow with Colour-coded and Labelled Controllers

The Pro Tools software is a large and daunting software package, especially for first time users. Even after using the software for a fair amount of time, it can be hard to optimise your workflow to achieve the maximum level of efficiency.

The interface of Pro Tools doesn't particularly help the issue; there are so many different controls, menus and options that it's easy to feel overwhelmed upon opening a new session. One way to lesson the impact of this incredibly overwhelming interface is to utilise a control device that helps rather than hinders your efficiency. Enter the Avid Keyboard.

The Avid Keyboard is a colour-coded and extensively labelled keyboard designed precisely to speed up your workflow in the Pro Tools software. It includes text and icons for the primary key commands in the software, as well as standard keyboard labelling (you can use it as a normal keyboard).

The device supports Mac and PC, and is connected to your computer using USB. There's also a PS/2 adapter included in the price so that you can connect the device to older computers. With this extensive range of compatibility issues, the Keyboard is sure to be of use no matter what your recording set-up looks like or what software / hardware platform(s) you are using.

The keyboard offers an incredible boost in productivity by placing the most-used Pro Tools features under your fingertips. You have instant access to the primary transport and editing features using the device. It's very clearly labelled, so it's easy for you to locate the right feature when you need it.

The colour coding is particularly intuitive and helps to distinguish different "grouops" of features from one another. The keyboard uses the same colour coding system as the ICON D-Control worksurface, as well as many other popular Avid control surfaces. The benefit of this is two-fold; if you've used any of these surfaces before, the keyboard will seem very familiar. If not, using the keyboard will train you to associate the colour coding with the features in a similar way to that on the more expensive control surfaces; meaning if you ever get the chance to graduate to one of those more expensive units you'll feel right at home on them.

The Keyboard feels fine to use, with responsive keys and a good tactile sensation as they are pressed. The device is modelled off the original Apple G5 Pro keyboard (a good thing in my opinion).

In summary, the colour-coded Pro Tools Keyboard by Avid is a must-have for Pro Tools users. It not only makes using the software easier and more enjoyable; it also significantly increases the speed with which even expert users can navigate the menus and options.

Whether you're a newbie who feels lost using the software, or an expert who simply wants to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your existing workflow processes, the Avid Keyboard is the perfect way to make sure you're getting the maximum "bang for your buck" out of your Pro Tools sessions.

Playing a good FPS. Would you prefer a console controller or keyboard and mouse?

I've tried playing FPS like Halo with the xbox controller. It's not as accurate or effective as using a keyboard and mouse. The design of the mouse is such that you can accurately aim and fire with it , as opposed to a 360 controller where you roll your thumb , the reticule hops all over the place , can't aim.

The controller's good for sports games , and action games...but if you're trying to aim with that dumb 360 stick forget about it , it's inaccurate as fuck. Your thoughts.

If your talking about the 360 controller specifically then I'd have to say that I don't like the design of that controller it just feels uncomfortable in my hands and I don't like the location of the left analogue stick and directional pad. But I do prefer a good console controller over a keyboard and mouse.

Samsung And Google Still Talking Google TV, Won’t Launch At CES Anyway (crunchgear?)

Uh-oh. Samsung and Google are still in talks regarding its upcoming Google TV
offering. _Reuters_ is reporting that Samsung's president indicated that the
two companies are in "late-stage talks" and that Samsung's devices will launch
in early 2012, just not at CES like it was previously thought. Google has been
working with Samsung for sometime now. In fact Samsung demonstrated a Google
TV companion device at _last year's_ CES. Here's a demo and the press release.
But here we are, almost a full year later and Samsung has still yet to release
a model, which in retrospect, was probably for the best. Isn't that right,
Logitech?
