Flir First Mate - Brilliant Night Vision Technology For The Boater
The first mate allows all boating enthusiasts to navigate with greater safely
and confidence during the night and the day. And as the first mate uses high-quality thermal imaging it provides superior image clarity and granularity than the other systems in use.
This is great news for boaters as it basically means that we can view more of our surroundings than with other night vision technology available now. To summarize, FLIR’s leading image-processing systems create really sharp / clear thermal video night and day. Obvious benefits include...
1) Being better able to view boats, people, and navigation dangers in complete darkness. Not surprisingly the VOx micro bolometer gives great-quality imaging for a fraction of the cost of other night vision equipment, giving detailed thermal imagery, top performance, and enhanced detection and recognition ranges they need in complete darkness, even through smoke, dust and fog.
2) Registering heat signatures from various objects that radar will miss such as debris that is floating or bridge abutments in any lighting environment - this is because First Mate cameras see heat and NOT light, so they see objects that the naked eye will not cannot.
3) Ability to see more and see farther away than with other night vision technologies. This is because flir First Mate night vision cameras see clearly without any ambient light at all, they can see far further at night than the other technologies that need light to work. They can view other heat sources that these other cameras would never find!
4) The first mate is the first fully IPX7 submersible, hand held, high-performance thermal night vision device.
The First Mate does not actually use light intensification technologies nor a near IR illuminator like a lot of other night vision device. And thermal imaging permits you to see long wave infrared radiation vs. visible or near visible light waves. What this means is that you can view in broad daylight or in complete darkness.
And I am happy to advise that quite unlike the various other night vision technologies in use, in this case you absolutely won't find yourself getting blinded by marina lights or any bright illumination in the background. And, there is no possibility of “burning out” the element. Boat with confidence knowing that you can see hazards, harbor entrances, navigation aids and even a man overboard in total darkness. First Mate can even aid man overboard visibility during daylight as the thermal contrast is often superior to visual contrast. You can switch between “White-hot” and “Black-hot” modes.
First Mate Flexibility Of Use
The flir first mate can be used in various modes depending the situation. You can simply hold it and then view the displayed image, it's that easy. But the first mate has a video output. So you can fix the flir first mate camera on deck facing to the front and then connect the ‘video out’ to your monitor / computer inside the comfort of the cabin.
However you chose to use the first mate from flir, so I'm positive that you will be delighted by adding this piece of equipment to your on-board marine equipment.
Can Night Vision goggles be exposed to normal light?
In the middle of the day, if I turn on my night vision goggles, will they break from overexposure?
its depending on, if its just regular daylight there should not be a issue, sunlight however can cause ireversible damage since it contains wavelenghts that fall into the range of the sensors used
Forum Concludes With LAUNCH of New Ideas To Generate, Store, and Distribute Energy (dipnote)
As I look back on the high speed whirlwind of the LAUNCH: Energy Forum, I have
deep admiration, respect, and gratitude for the vision and persistence of the
original members of NASA and its partners who drove the formation of LAUNCH.
It is an example of the efforts, such as the Open Government Initiative and
the Quadrennial Development and Diplomacy Review, to update the way our
government does things.
For the past several months, the four core partners (NASA, USAID, State,
Nike), dozens of private sector and NGO partners, and over 200 innovators
spent time thinking about solutions to a global problem: how to reliably
generate, store, and distribute energy to people who need it and don't have
it. As the other blog postings made clear, the ten selected innovators cover
the spectrum in these three areas.
The focus of the entire weekend was speed: speed to identify areas of highest
import that will best accelerate the maturation of the innovator's idea into a
market reality with real-world impact, speed to the moment when a LAUNCH
Council member made a specific offer of help, speed to discovering synergies
between two or more innovators. It was exhausting. ...
