Automatic garage door openers add convenience to millions of households every day. We now have harmless models at present because of the current state and federal regulations that started on January 1, 1993. Drawing from the Underwriters Laboratories Standard 325 or UL 325, all garage door opener manufacturers are demanded to include an optical sensor or door edge sensor in every door they will be producing onwards especially if it is to be sold in the US. UL 325 is the basis of all federal and state garage door safety laws. The Underwriters Laboratories were the originators of this code in 1973 as they belong to an industry who voluntarily drafted a safety guideline which they later on revised in 1982 and 1988 to widen the scope and include protection against electric shock, fire and entrapment hazards. A national law was applied beginning 1990 that demands all garage door opener manufactured for local use to adhere to the UL 325 entrapment protection requirements. On January one three years after that, another revision was passed to include an optical sensor or a door edge sensor or its equivalent in the requirement of each garage door.
This law is not pushing consumers to install new garage door models. If the old one you are using wears out, however, owners need to buy new parts. That is the time they will have no choice but to get safer and more modern designs.
Aside from adhering to firmer laws, the garage door opener business also started with a consumer awareness safety promotion. Do not lose the safety and efficiency of your garage door and opener and test them monthly. Inability to conduct needed maintenance and check existence of problems may result in terrible mischief. Unmindful manipulation and permission to children to play with the garage door opener controls are also a delicate situation that can have tragic endings. For your family and your friends to stay away from harm, follow the basic safety rules. It brings a large amount of danger and along with it causes something serious as death. Children should not be anywhere near transmitters and wall controls.
Do not positions the push button wall lower than 5 feet when measured from the ground. Put it with the stationary objects and absolutely keep them out of reach of children. Put on the button and use it where you can fully see the closing of the garage door.
Educate your children on the safety issues of the garage door. Wait for the door to be completely shut before looking away. Train your children not to play under or near an open garage door.
Do not permit them to play under a closing door. Put a 2x4 thing steady under the garage door. Reversal is the proper reaction of a closing door. If this is not easily done, that is an indicator that you need to adjust, repair or totally replace your equipment.

No owners manual, forgot to ask where the release was and can't seem to find it. Feel like an idiot. Help!
